Dreaming Up a Different Stacker

This is my submission to the Falling Block Jam 2025. When I heard about the event, it seemed like a nice opportunity to familiarize myself with Godot and play around with an oddball puzzle game concept that I had in the back of my mind

The core idea of Teseltrios is to imagine a slightly warped history for the origin of the falling block puzzle genre. What if the "magic number' was three instead of four? What if the early designers of the genre came to somewhat different conclusions about how things should work? The mechanics of Teseltrios are a warped mash-up of concepts that existed in the late 80's and early 90's (or, feel like they could have existed in that time period, with a slight push further in the right direction).

In terms of visual presentation, I was hoping I would have time to play around with some other ideas. I consider this release the "2D prototype." In light of the jam's theme of "Analog Memory," I was hoping I would have more time to workshop some alternate concepts for visual presentation as well. For instance, what if tessellation games were instead displayed in wireframe representation on a vector monitor? We're familiar with how to read tessellation games on text-mode and tile-based displays, but what if a different display technology stayed prevalent in arcades for just a little bit longer?

With the hours remaining the jam, I don't think I'll necessarily be completing a cram rework from a 2D scene to a 3D scene. However, I have started poking around that area of Godot as well, and have a rough idea of how I'd like to adapt the visual presentation. So, if not today, perhaps I can make a post-jam update with the game looking like I imagined. Nonetheless, this was a fun exercise to make a quick game and learn a bit about Godot and GDScript along the way.
